Srinagar: Ahead of upcoming bye-polls on Budgam and Nagrota assembly segments, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sunday publicly accepted a challenge thrown by Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma, swearing on the Holy Quran to refute allegations of any political understanding or links with the central leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Earlier, LoP Sunil Sharma had dared the Chief Minister to visit a mosque or any other holy site, and swear on the Quran, asserting that Omar Abdullah’s party had maintained “secret links” with the BJP in Delhi. “Go to a mosque or any holy site, swear on the Holy Quran that you have no links with BJP in Delhi,” Sharma had said while talking to reporters.
Responding sharply, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah accepted the challenge. “I swear on the Holy Quran that I didn’t seek an alliance with the BJP in 2024 for Statehood or for any other reason,” he wrote in an ‘X’ post. “Unlike Sunil Sharma, I don’t tell lies for a living,” the Chief Minister, who also is JKNC Vice President, added.
